Power Partners The Way Forward Being some 700 years old it is easy to imagine Penrhos Court as a symbol of sustainability and we, as owners of Penrhos, are setting the task in front of us now to make it an example of sustainability. Everyone has to have food, heat and somewhere to live and entertainment is not a bad thing either. The trouble now is that recent, modern western culture has given us an abundance of these basic needs but the methods we are using to get them are taking a toll on the world's resources. We are living a way of life that cannot continue much longer. So, what can we do? How does Penrhos help? Green Energy Project The next step is in hand, a Green energy project to install a wind turbine, solar water heating, a solar voltaic system, bio-diesel CHP, wood log burners and ground/air source heat. Each method combines to be an entire heat and power system, a working example and demonstration for anyone staying or visiting Penrhos. As well as providing reliable heat and power for Penrhos the surplus power can back–feed the grid to help provide power for the local community. Educational Projects Being forced or told to change a way of life is not comfortable but when all the ups and down are explained it can be exciting. Let's call that education. Penrhos is experienced and fully equipped to offer residential and day courses. The Green Energy project gives visitors first hand experience of green energy sources, helping them to assess the most suitable for themselves in terms of return on capital and care for the environment. Open days and courses will commence when the green energy project nears completion and be run with the help of manufacturers, suppliers, research institutions and green businesses. Eco Building Project The lower field of Penrhos is a perfect site for a new Eco Building, a building using sustainable building materials and technologies that create a zero carbon rated building. The eco-building project will be for meetings and courses and linked to other educational sustainable programmes. Power Partners These projects address the biggest issue that we are faced with at the beginning of the 21st century. That is, what we must all do to create a sustainable way of living. It is a massive task and Penrhos is actively seeking partners and collaborators in these projects and if you are interested please email either Martin or Daphne with your ideas.
