The Surroundings Penrhos is an excellent base from which to enjoy the untamed countryside of the borderlands. You can walk over the wild hills of Wales, or along the Offa's Dyke Path, which was the ancient frontier between England & Wales, or explore the peaceful valleys at the foot of the Black Mountains. We are within easy reach of five golf courses, the nearest being Kington which is in fact the highest golf course in England, where the views are so spectacular your standard round of golf hardly matters. Other activities nearby include riding, hang gliding, rally driving & go-carting. We are very close to Hay-on-Wye which is internationally known for second hand books. There are many castles, stately homes and galleries to visit in the area and numerous beautiful gardens. Just a few minutes from Penrhos is the famous Hergest Croft Gardens with spectacular azaleas and rhododendrons in the Spring and early Summer and a stunning show of colour from the maples and birches in the Autumn. The area is delightful all year around, each season quite distinct. In spring you discover the wild primroses and anemones in the hedgerows, in summer watch the kingfishers at the rivers edge, marvel at the spectacular autumn colours and in the winter, after a crisp frosty walk, return to Penrhos to a steaming aromatic bath and rollicking log fire. Have a look at a Birds Eye View of Penrhos. |
